Dodoma sits at the crossroads of Tanzania's central transport routes, but getting here takes some effort — there are no scheduled flights to the city's small airport.
The Tanzania Railways Corporation runs passenger trains from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma via Dodoma on the historic Central Railway line. The journey from Dar takes 14–15 hours. Buses on the paved road from Dar es Salaam are considerably faster but the driving can be hair-raising.
