Njombe is more useful as a base than a destination in its own right. The town itself has a couple of mission churches, a Saturday market, and excellent cool air. The proper attractions are around it: the tea and wattle plantations that wrap the plateau, the Kitulo National Park wildflower fields three hours away by car, and the Lupembe escarpment with its steep drop down into the Kilombero plain.
