Usagara Market

The Soko Kuu (Main Market) in the Usagara area south of the city centre is the everyday market for Tanga — open-fronted stalls of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, dried fish, sandals, plastic toys, kanga cloth, and a corner where you can have a freshly tailored shirt finished in an afternoon. The market is loud, crowded, and friendly, and the best place in town to see the easy mix of Swahili coastal culture.

Visit in the morning when the fish stalls are at their fullest. Bring small notes; carry valuables out of sight.
