Kande is the small market town on the main road between Kara and the Burkina Faso border, and the standard base for anyone visiting the Koutammakou. It is not itself a Batammariba town — the population is mixed Kabiye, Lamba, and others — but guides who know the Tamberma villages cluster here and can be hired by the day. Half a dozen basic guesthouses and a couple of restaurants serve travellers.
Bargain for a guide before setting out; rates per day are not high but should be agreed in advance, along with what is included (vehicle, fees to villages, lunch). Most guides have motorbikes; a 4x4 is rarely necessary in the dry season but a sensible precaution after rain. Bring small bills in local currency.
