Sousse has one of the best beaches on the Tunisian coast — a long arc of fine sand stretching north from the city centre toward Port El Kantaoui, backed by the resort hotel strip. The water is warm from June through October and shallow enough to be safe for children well away from shore. The central beach is public and usually busy in summer; the beaches attached to the larger resort hotels are generally quieter and better maintained.
The best beach in the immediate area is at Port El Kantaoui, about 10 kilometres north. The sand is cleaner, the water calmer, and the beach is long enough to find a quiet stretch even in high season. Watersports operators here offer jet-skiing, windsurfing, and boat trips.
For quieter options south of the city, the coast between Sousse and Monastir has several smaller beaches that see fewer tourists and more Tunisians — which generally means lower prices and a more local atmosphere.
