Getting Around

The Medina is small and best explored on foot — most of the major sights are within easy walking distance of each other. The streets narrow quickly and some lanes are not accessible by vehicle, so walking is often the only option in the historic centre.

Between the city centre and Port El Kantaoui, dolmus minibuses run throughout the day from near the train station and cost around 1 TND. Taxis are metered within the city. For day trips to Monastir, Kairouan, and El Jem, local buses and louages (shared taxis) depart from the bus station near the train station.

The Sousse–Monastir Metro du Sahel light rail line connects Sousse train station to Monastir and continues to Mahdia — useful for day trips down the coast. Trains run throughout the day.
