Port El Kantaoui is a purpose-built resort and marina about 10 kilometres north of Sousse, constructed from scratch in the 1970s in a vaguely Andalusian-Arabic style. It is the main concentration of upmarket hotels in the Sousse area and has a pleasant marina where yachts are moored alongside tourist restaurants and boutique shops. The beach is long, sandy, and well-maintained.
It is transparently a tourist creation — no authentic Tunisian life here — but as manufactured beach resorts go, it is reasonably tasteful and offers a comfortable base if the Medina's pace is too hectic. The marina promenade is pleasant for an evening stroll, and several watersports operators are based here. Dolmus minibuses run between Sousse city centre and Port El Kantaoui throughout the day.
