Tozeur rewards slow exploration. The old medina quarter — the Ouled el-Hadef — is the finest intact example of the distinctive yellow-brick architecture of the Tunisian south-west, and can fill a morning. Beyond the town, the Chott el-Jerid salt lake and the mountain oases at Chebika and Tamerza make Tozeur the natural base for several days of excursions.
