Aero Beach

Aero Beach is Entebbe's most unusual lakeside spot: a resort and beach area dotted with decommissioned aircraft — retired planes left in place as permanent installations, giving the grounds the feel of an outdoor aviation museum crossed with a beach bar. The combination of retired fuselages, lake views, and plastic chairs is peculiarly appealing.

The beach itself is a stretch of Lake Victoria shoreline where people swim, barbecue, and drink in the shade of the old planes. It's popular with Kampala weekenders looking for a lake escape and with travellers with time to kill before or after a flight from nearby Entebbe International Airport. The Atlas Obscura community has documented it as one of East Africa's stranger attractions, and the description holds up in person.

A story
The decommissioned aircraft scattered around Aero Beach include remains of planes that saw service during Uganda's turbulent aviation history — some date from the Idi Amin era, when the airport was the scene of the 1976 Operation Entebbe raid by Israeli special forces. The beach turned these rusting relics into an attraction rather than clearing them, giving the place an atmosphere unlike any other lakeside resort in East Africa.
