Lido Beach

Lido Beach is Entebbe's most popular swimming beach, a sandy stretch on Lake Victoria with changing facilities, small restaurants, and a relaxed local atmosphere. On weekends it fills with families from both Entebbe and Kampala; on weekdays it's quiet enough to feel like a private resort.

The beach is on the eastern side of the Entebbe peninsula, giving it calmer water than the more exposed southern shores. Several small bars and grills serve cold Nile Special beer, grilled tilapia, and fried cassava. The lake swimming is generally safe at Lido, though the usual advice about bilharzia in slow-moving lake margins applies — the open swimming area is considered lower-risk than the reedy margins. Sunset here, with the wide expanse of Lake Victoria turning orange, is one of the better moments Entebbe offers.

A story
Lake Victoria is the world's second-largest freshwater lake by surface area, and Lido Beach sits on its northern shore — one of the few places in Uganda where you can swim in the lake at a maintained, managed beach. The water is warm year-round and the sunsets over the lake, which is wide enough at this point to look like an inland sea, are spectacular.
