Chembe Bird Sanctuary is a quiet nature stop outside Kitwe, best for travellers who are already in the Copperbelt and want a break from the city. Birdlife is the main draw, especially in the hotter months, and the reserve can also turn up small wildlife such as monkeys, tortoises, zebra, and waterbuck.
Do not expect a polished safari experience. Come with binoculars, water, and modest expectations, and it can be a good half-day outing.
