Kitwe is a working city rather than a tourist destination, but it has genuine points of interest for travellers passing through the Copperbelt. The copper industry is visible everywhere — from the Nkana mine headframes on the city's western edge to the engineering firms along the main roads — and understanding this industrial history is part of understanding modern Zambia. The area around Mindolo Dam to the southwest provides some greenery and birdwatching relief from the urban landscape.
