Eating Out

A Zambian will tell you they haven't eaten unless they've had nshima, the stiff porridge made from mealie meal. It is a great comfort food, usually eaten with meat and a variety of bean and vegetable dishes. Also recommended are roasted mealie cobs, boiled groundnuts, and the local Mosi beer, which is lighter than Castle.

If you are not eating in someone's home you are more likely to find western-style food, or Indian, Chinese, or a kebab. Most of the better restaurants cluster around the two main shopping centres — the Arcades and Manda Hill — or in the upmarket suburbs of Kabulonga and Longacres.
