Kenneth Kaunda International Airport sits about 25 kilometres east of the city centre. Direct flights connect Lusaka to Johannesburg, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and various other African hubs, with European connections through Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, and South African Airways among others. Taxis from the airport to the city centre take 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic, and the fare should be agreed before you get in. Ride-hailing apps also operate from the airport.
Long-distance buses from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, and South Africa arrive at the Lusaka City Bus Terminus near the market area. The journey from Livingstone by road takes about six hours on a generally decent highway; buses run regularly throughout the day. Travellers coming from eastern Zambia or Malawi pass through the Great East Road.
The train network in Zambia is limited and slow. The TAZARA (Tanzania-Zambia Railway) connects Lusaka to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, a scenic but very long journey used more by freight than passengers.
