Kalimba Reptile Park

North of the city centre, the Kalimba Reptile Park is one of Lusaka's better family-friendly attractions. Pythons, puff adders, cobras, crocodiles, monitor lizards, and tortoises are among the residents, and the handling sessions — where you can hold smaller, non-venomous snakes — are popular with children. The park also has a small fish eagle rehabilitation programme.

The setting is pleasant: the park is on a working farm surrounded by trees, and you can walk the grounds at your own pace. It works well as a half-day outing combined with another attraction on the northern side of the city. Staff are knowledgeable and happy to answer questions about the animals and their behaviour.

A story
The park began when its founder started rehabilitating injured snakes on his farm outside Lusaka in the 1990s. Word spread, and more animals arrived — including pythons seized by authorities and crocodiles rescued from urban drains. What started as an accidental collection became a structured facility that now plays a role in local conservation education.
