Al-Khamis Mosque

One of the oldest mosques in the Gulf region

The twin minarets of Al-Khamis Mosque are visible from far along Sheikh Salman Road. It is considered one of the oldest Islamic sites in the Gulf — foundations may date to 692 AD, though an inscription found on site suggests an 11th-century origin. The mosque was rebuilt in the 14th and 15th centuries, when the distinctive minarets were added. A partial restoration has stabilized the structure, and the ruins are open to visitors.

The site is modest in scale but historically significant. You can walk around freely and get a good look at the stonework and early Islamic architectural details.
