Bichanakandi

Bichanakandi is another of the Sylhet day trips that exists because of the geology of the border: a river runs out of the Indian hills into Bangladesh through a wide stony bed, the water cold and clear, with green hills rising on the Indian side. Small boats run upriver from the put-in to the boulder fields near the border, where visitors wade among the stones in shallow rapids.

In the monsoon the river runs full and forms a wide, shallow swimming hole that is one of the most popular spots in the country for outdoor bathing. In the dry season the river shrinks and the experience is much less dramatic; visit between June and October if possible. Combine with Pantumai Falls and other border-area attractions.
