By air
Osmani International Airport (ZYL), about 10 km north of the city centre, has regular domestic flights to Dhaka and Chittagong (one hour) and international flights to London, Dubai, Doha, and several Indian cities — a reflection of the very large Sylheti expatriate community.
By rail
The Sylhet-Dhaka train line is one of the prettier journeys in Bangladesh, running through tea estates and the hills of the Sylhet division. Intercity services take 6 to 8 hours and run several times a day. Book first-class seats in advance.
By road
The road from Dhaka takes 6 to 8 hours depending on traffic on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. Several private bus companies run direct services daily; the upper-end services (AC, reclining seats) are reasonably comfortable. Local buses to surrounding districts leave from Kadamtali bus station.
