The compact old town around the Keane Bridge and the dargah can be covered on foot. Beyond that, CNGs (auto-rickshaws running on compressed natural gas) are the standard way to get around the city — fix the fare before getting in, as meters are rare.
For the surrounding attractions (Jaflong, Ratargul, Bichanakandi, the tea estates) the easiest option is to hire a car with driver for the day from a hotel or one of the small tour operators near the dargah. Day rates are reasonable and a single vehicle can usually cover several destinations.
Cycle rickshaws still ply many of the smaller lanes and are pleasant for short hops. The rail and bus station handle long-distance travel; both are a short CNG ride from the centre.
