Bumthang's appeal is almost entirely spiritual and natural. The valley is dotted with ancient temples, monasteries, and dzongs — many of them still active religious centres rather than museum pieces. Plan at least two or three days. Most sites are within easy reach of Jakar, the main town. A vehicle is useful for reaching the more distant monasteries.
