Phuntsholing's sights are compact and can be covered in a morning. The Bhutan Gate is the obvious starting point — the ornate archway marking the border is one of the most photographed spots in the country. A short walk into town brings you to Zangto Pelri Lhakhang, a serene temple rising above the market area. For those with more time, Kharbandi Gompa sits above town on the Thimphu road, offering sweeping views over the plains, and the Amo Chhu Crocodile Breeding Centre beside the river is worth an hour if you have never seen a gharial up close.
