A few blocks back from the river, Psar Kampong Cham is the daily produce, household-goods and food market for the entire province. The covered hall is given over to dried fish, fresh meat, vegetables, rice in open sacks, kitchenware and clothes; the lanes outside spread out for blocks with motorcycle parts, secondhand books, and stalls of locally pressed sesame oil.
For visitors the food stalls along the southern edge of the market are the most interesting — bowls of kuy teav noodle soup at sunrise, fresh-baked num pang sandwiches mid-morning, sweet sticky-rice cakes wrapped in banana leaf. The market is at its liveliest before 9 am.
