The best time to visit Kampong Cham is the cool, dry season from November to February, when daytime temperatures sit in the high 20s Celsius, the Mekong is at its lowest, and the bamboo bridge to Koh Paen is in place. March to May is the hot season, with temperatures reaching the high 30s and very humid; the rains break around late May and continue intermittently through October, swelling the Mekong and washing the bamboo bridge away with it. Even in the wet season most days have only a heavy afternoon shower, and the surrounding countryside is at its greenest.
