Kampong Cham makes a good midway stop on the long road north from Phnom Penh to Kratie and the Irrawaddy dolphin stretch of the Mekong. Closer to town, the older brick sanctuaries of Wat Hanchey make a good half-day trip upriver, and the wooden pagoda of Wat Maha Leap with its silk-weaving villages is an easy detour to the south.
