Getting There

Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, about 30 kilometers northwest of the city center, connects to all major Chinese cities and has international routes to a growing list of Asian destinations. Airport buses run to several city-center stops and take about forty-five minutes; taxis and ride-hailing apps cover the same route in thirty to forty minutes outside rush hour.

High-speed rail is often more convenient than flying for most distances. Hefei South station has services to Shanghai (under two hours), Nanjing (under one hour), Beijing (about four hours), and Huang Shan (about ninety minutes). The older Hefei station handles slower regional trains. Both stations are well-connected to the city center by metro.

The city has four metro lines with reasonable coverage of the central area. Taxis and the Didi ride-hailing app work reliably throughout.
