Mirror Lake

Mirror Lake is a substantial urban lake at Wuhu's center, its shores developed into a walking circuit that is genuinely pleasant by any measure. The willows and lotus beds are at their best in summer; in early morning the lake surface is calm enough to justify the name, and the walking path sees a steady stream of residents doing their morning exercise. The circuit takes about an hour at a relaxed pace, with multiple entry points from the surrounding streets.

The eastern shore is the most scenic section, where mature trees shade the path and the view across the water takes in the pagoda of Guangji Temple on the far bank. The western side has been developed with cafes and small restaurants that face the water, making it a reasonable choice for a rest stop. Evening is a popular time for locals, when families gather at the lakeside and small boats can be rented for a circuit on the water.

A story
Mirror Lake (Jinghu) takes its name from the reflective stillness of the water on calm mornings, when the lake surface returns an almost photographic image of the surrounding trees and the Guangji Temple pagoda. The name is ancient, but the lake's current form was substantially shaped during urban development in the 1980s — the Communist-era engineers inadvertently created one of the most pleasant urban spaces in Anhui.
