The Yangtze Riverside Park stretches along Wuhu's northern bank, providing access to the river that defined the city's historical identity as a treaty port and trading center. The park is a broad promenade with views across to the far bank — the river here is wide enough that the opposite shore appears as a low green line rather than a distinct landscape. Evening is the best time to visit, when residents gather for walks, dancing, and the small night food stalls that set up along the promenade.
The riverside gives a better sense of the Yangtze's scale than any inland vantage point can provide. The river traffic — container ships heading toward Nanjing and Shanghai, sand barges, and the occasional passenger ferry — is constant and provides an easy hour of watching. The park benches face the water, and the light on the river in late afternoon is consistently good. A historical marker near the central section notes the locations of the old treaty port warehouses and foreign trading houses, none of which survive above ground.
