When to Go

Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) are the best seasons. Summer is hot and humid, with typhoon risk in August and early September, though the water at Baishuiyang is at its warmest. Late September and October bring the beginning of the mandarin duck season at Baishuiyang, clear skies, and pleasant temperatures across the scenic areas. Winter is cool but workable — Taimu Mountain can be dramatic in winter fog, and the She villages are quieter and more genuine-feeling without the summer domestic tourist crowds.
