Ningde's appeal is almost entirely in its natural landscapes, and they fall into three very different types: the bizarre granite spires and coastal scenery of Taimu Mountain in the northeast, the strange shallow river experience at Baishuiyang inland, and the gorges and ethnic minority villages of Baiyunshan in the interior. Each deserves a full day, and together they make Ningde one of the most varied scenic prefectures in Fujian.
