Linxia has no railway station. The most convenient approach is by bus from Lanzhou, which takes about two and a half hours along a reasonably good road through mountain terrain. Buses run throughout the day from Lanzhou's South Bus Station.
From Xiahe, buses take about two hours south and east over the mountains. This route passes through the Gannan Tibetan landscape and provides a dramatic contrast to the Islamic culture of Linxia at either end. Shared taxis are faster but more expensive.
From Xi'an or other eastern cities, you would route through Lanzhou or take a longer bus connection via Dingxi.
