Binggou Danxia is the quieter half of Zhangye's famous landform country. Where the better-known Rainbow Mountains are about colour bands, Binggou is more about shape: eroded cliffs, towers, walls, and castle-like formations carved by wind and water.
It is worth adding if you have a full day for the geopark area rather than a quick sunset stop. The scenery photographs best in angled light, and the site sees fewer visitors than the main colour hills. Bring sun protection; shade is scarce and distances inside the scenic area can feel longer than they look.
