Foshan is connected to Guangzhou by the Guangfo Metro, the first intercity metro line in China, which runs frequently and makes the journey in about thirty to forty-five minutes depending on the station. Most visitors use the metro as a matter of course, treating Foshan as an extension of Guangzhou rather than a separate destination. The Guangzhou South high-speed rail terminus is also accessible from Foshan by metro.
Within Foshan, the metro network covers the main sights in the Chancheng district and connects to Shunde (Ronggui area) by a combination of metro and bus. For the Shiwan ceramics area, the metro stops near the old kiln district.
