Eating Out

Zhanjiang's food culture is centred on the sea. The city's oysters — harvested from the shallow bays of the Leizhou Peninsula and grilled over charcoal in their shells — are the defining local dish and eaten at roadside stalls with a directness that suits the ingredient. Zhanjiang chicken, the other obsession, is raised slowly and served with restraint. This is not a city that disguises its ingredients.
