Meixi Royal Stone Archways

Qing-era honorific archways and gardens in Zhuhai

The Meixi Royal Stone Archways preserve a group of late-Qing ceremonial gates built to honour Chen Fang, a Zhuhai-born merchant and diplomat who made his fortune overseas. The carved stone arches, ancestral buildings and garden setting give the site a more historical feel than Zhuhai's newer seaside landmarks.

It is a worthwhile stop if you want to understand the Pearl River Delta's links with migration, trade and returned wealth. The site is not as dramatic as the big theme parks, but it adds texture to a city often seen mainly as a gateway to Macau.
