Beihai's main attraction is its coastline — Silver Beach in particular — supplemented by the colonial Old Street, a small aquarium, and the mangrove boardwalk on the edge of town. The island of Weizhou, an hour by ferry, is the real destination for anyone who wants snorkelling, diving, or simply a quieter coastline with remarkable volcanic geology and two nineteenth-century churches.
