Xishi Temple

Xishi Temple, built into the limestone outcrops on the western face of West Mountain, is the most visually interesting of Guiping's Buddhist sites — the halls are constructed around and between natural rock formations, so that the architecture and the geology intermingle in a way that feels organic rather than imposed. The temple is active and well maintained, serving a local congregation rather than primarily tourists. Several of its historical stone inscriptions remain in place.

The approach through the tea gardens takes about 20 minutes on foot from the mountain entrance, passing through some of the oldest cultivated tea plots on the hillside. The temple can also be reached by the cable car and a short walk down from the summit. There is no entry fee beyond the West Mountain scenic area ticket.
