Shijiazhuang itself is a thin historical city, but the region around it is rich. The Hebei Museum in the city centre is excellent and can stand alone as a reason to spend a day. The day trips out to the Zhaozhou Bridge, Longxing Temple, Bailin Monastery, and the Cangyan Mountain temples each take a half-day to a full day and together make a case for spending two or three nights here.
Most of the outlying sites require either a taxi or a rented car. Organised tours run to the main sites from the city; ask at your hotel.
