The Western Qing Tombs are about 140 kilometres southwest of Beijing and about 120 kilometres west of Baoding. Independent access requires either driving or taking a bus from Baoding: trains run from Beijing to Baoding in about forty minutes on the high-speed line, and buses or taxis then cover the 75 kilometres from Baoding to Yi County and the tomb complex. The journey from Baoding takes about ninety minutes by road.
Several operators in Beijing and Baoding offer day trips to the tombs by minibus. These simplify logistics and are worth considering given the complexity of the public transport alternative. The complex is large enough that having a guide who knows the layout saves time.
Entrance fees cover the main complex; some individual tombs charge additional admission.
