Jingpo Lake is most naturally reached from Mudanjiang, about 100 kilometres to the north. Buses run from Mudanjiang bus station to Jingpohu Town, taking around two hours; taxis and private car hire are alternatives for those who want more flexibility within the park. From Harbin, the journey involves taking a fast train to Mudanjiang (about two hours) and then connecting by bus or taxi.
There is no train station at the lake. Accommodation is available in Jingpohu Town and at lakeside hotels of various standards. Day trips from Mudanjiang are common but a night or two in the lake area allows access to early morning lake conditions and the volcanic geology trails that require more time.
