When to Go

Autumn is the best season at Jingpo Lake: the maple and birch forest turns red and gold from late September through October, the summer crowds are gone, and the air is clear. Early October is the peak of the colour season.

Summer (July–August) brings the heaviest waterfall flows and the longest days, but also the largest crowds and humid weather. Spring (April–May) is pleasant and uncrowded, with the forest coming into leaf. Winter is cold but the frozen waterfall is worth making a specific trip for — January is the most reliable month for the ice to be fully formed.
