Sha Tin Racecourse

World-class horse racing with 85,000-capacity grandstands

One of the world's largest horse racing venues, with a capacity of 85,000 spectators across multiple grandstands. The track was built on reclaimed land from a tidal inlet in 1978 and is operated by the Hong Kong Jockey Club alongside Happy Valley. Meetings are held on Saturdays and sometimes Sundays from September to June. Admission is inexpensive; the real experience is the crowd, the scale, and the intensity of attention given to the horses by Hong Kong's famously enthusiastic racing public. Take the MTR to Racecourse station (East Rail Line, open on race days only) or Fo Tan and walk.
