Huangshi food reflects its position on the Yangtze: freshwater fish, river crab, and lotus root dishes are everywhere. The city is known locally for its fish-cake dishes and for braised pork in styles similar to the Wuhan classics. Market streets near the old town centre have cheap and unfussy local restaurants serving the kind of food residents actually eat rather than tourist versions of it.
