The streets immediately outside the western gate of Wuhan University, especially Guangba Lu and the lanes off it, are a student-priced breakfast paradise — and one of the best places in the city to graze the full Wuhan breakfast canon at low prices and with a young, lively crowd.
Stalls open early — 6 to 7 am — and sell re gan mian, soup dumplings, fried bread sticks, soy milk, and the local mian wo rice doughnuts. Bowl prices hover around 7–10 RMB. The atmosphere is rather different from the manicured Hubu Alley experience: this is everyday Wuhan, with students wolfing down breakfast on their way to class.
