Huanglong Cave extends more than 11 kilometres underground and is one of the largest cave systems accessible to tourists in China. The entrance is in Suoxiyu valley, east of the main Zhangjiajie National Forest Park entrance, and tours cover roughly four kilometres of passageways over 90 minutes. An underground waterfall falls 50 metres into a lake that visitors cross by boat; the cave also contains a 19-metre stalagmite, one of the tallest known.
The lighting inside the cave is theatrical in the way that Chinese scenic cave management tends toward — coloured lights illuminate the major formations in changing sequences, which appeals to the majority of visitors and frustrates those who prefer geological features in their natural context. Admission costs around ¥120 and is separate from the main Wulingyuan park ticket. The cave temperature stays around 16°C year-round, making it a useful refuge during Wulingyuan's hot and humid summers.
