Baotou Rare Earths Museum is the place to understand why this Inner Mongolian industrial city matters far beyond its own skyline. Exhibits cover the minerals, separation processes, and high-tech uses of rare-earth elements, the metals that end up in magnets, batteries, electronics, and military hardware.
It is a more specialist stop than Baotou Museum, but that is exactly the point. Come if you are curious about the resource economy behind modern China, or if you want a local sight that is not another temple, park, or grassland excursion.
