Chifeng has an airport (IATA: CIF) with daily flights to Beijing (about 1.5 hours), Shanghai, and several other Chinese cities. The flight is the practical choice for international travellers.
By train, Chifeng is on the Jingcheng line connecting Beijing to Tongliao. Direct trains from Beijing North take between five and seven hours depending on the service; several departures run daily. High-speed rail does not yet reach Chifeng directly — you need to transfer at Shenyang or take a conventional train from Beijing. By long-distance bus, the journey from Beijing takes six to seven hours on a direct coach from Sihui Long-Distance Bus Station. Buses are cheaper than trains and drop passengers in central Chifeng.
From Hohhot, the most practical option is the train via Zhangjiakou and Jining, a journey of eight to ten hours, though flying via Beijing is faster if time matters.
