Jinsha Bay ("Golden Sand Bay") is the main tourist development on the western shore of Wuhai Lake, where the lake meets the desert dunes. The resort offers yurts, Mongolian cultural performances, camel rides, sandboarding, and direct lake access — a commercial package designed for the Chinese domestic tourism market, executed with more taste than most such developments in Inner Mongolia. The backdrop of sand dunes rising directly from the lake edge is genuinely photogenic, and the sunsets over the dunes from the lake shore are the city's signature image.
The facilities include multiple accommodation options from lakeside yurts to standard hotel rooms, and the cultural performances (Mongolian music, wrestling demonstrations, archery) are a reasonable introduction to the regional traditions for visitors who haven't already had the experience elsewhere. The bay is most crowded in July and August; coming in June or September gives better light, cooler temperatures, and smaller crowds. The sand dunes behind the resort are walkable and offer views over both the lake and the Yellow River valley beyond.
