Jiefang Gate

Modern gate through Nanjing’s city wall beside Xuanwu Lake

Jiefang Gate is one of the newer openings in Nanjing's great Ming city wall, cut near Xuanwu Lake and now used as a practical entry point into one of the city's best walking areas. It lacks the age of Zhonghua Gate, but it sits in a rewarding position where wall, lake, and parkland meet.

Use it as part of a longer circuit rather than a single destination. From here you can walk the wall sections, drop down toward Xuanwu Lake, or continue into the old northern approaches to the city. It is a good reminder that Nanjing's walls are not just monuments; they still shape how the city is crossed.
