1912 Block

The 1912 Block (1912街区) is a pedestrianised complex of bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues in the Xuanwu district, near the Presidential Palace. The development takes its name from the year the Republic of China was founded in Nanjing. The architecture is a blend of Republican-era brick buildings and newer construction styled to match.

The block is busiest Thursday through Sunday evenings, when the outdoor terraces fill and live music starts. It caters to a young, affluent crowd and has a more curated atmosphere than the Fuzimiao riverfront. Cocktail bars, craft beer places, Japanese restaurants, and Western-style cafe-bars make up the majority of the tenants. The proximity to the Presidential Palace makes it easy to combine a history visit with an evening out.
