The Xuzhou Museum holds the main civic collection from the region's exceptionally rich Han Dynasty archaeological record. The permanent displays include jade burial objects, bronze vessels, pottery figurines, and the spectacular jade funeral clothes that demonstrate the high status of the Han royal family buried here. The collection is strong enough to justify a visit even for travellers who have already seen the Guishan tombs.
The museum also covers the city's longer history — Xuzhou was an important city from the Spring and Autumn period onward, and the artifacts from pre-Han and post-Han periods fill in the picture. There is a good section on the historical significance of Xuzhou's position at the junction of north–south and east–west trade routes. Admission is free; the museum is closed on Mondays.
